The HSI opened 73 points or 0.3% higher at 22,192. The HSCEI opened 23 points or 0.3% higher at 8,100. The HSTECH opened 24 points or 0.5% higher at 5,112.

Exporter TECHTRONIC IND (00669.HK) elevated 4.1%, while home appliance stock HAIER SMARTHOME (06690.HK) climbed 1.6%. HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) lost 1.3% to $86 as its Chairman Mark Tucker will retire by the end of the year. The company has commenced the process to select Tucker's successor.

Macau's April GGR rose 1.7% YoY, slightly beating expectations. GALAXY ENT (00027.HK) and SANDS CHINA LTD (01928.HK) gained 1.1% and 0.7%, while consumers TRIP.COM-S (09961.HK), ANTA SPORTS (02020.HK) and NONGFU SPRING (09633.HK) sagged 1.9-2.2%. ZIJIN MINING (02899.HK) proposed to spin off its overseas gold mine assets for separate listing, and its share price lifted 2.6% to $17.42.

YUM CHINA (09987.HK) cascaded 3.9% to $348.4 as its 1Q25 net profit increased 3%. Citi Research said that, in light of the uncertain same-store sales outlook for the next few quarters, another acceleration of its system sales growth could put pressure on margins in 2Q25-4Q25.
