<H Shrs>HSI Drops 15 Pts at Midday, but CN Insurers Gain; JD-SW/ NTES-S Soften Pre-results

The HSI faded 15 points or 0.1% to 25,597 at midday. The HSCEI picked up 16 points or 0.2% to 9,166. The HSTECH ebbed 25 points or 0.4% to 5,605. Total half-day turnover of the market amounted to $162.803 billion. TENCENT (00700.HK) climbed 1.4% to $594 as its 2Q25 non-IFRS net profit rose 10%, beating expectations. The market focused on how AI applications are driving growth in game and advertising revenue. MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), BIDU-SW (09888.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) and BILIBILI-W (09626.HK) added less than 1%, while JD-SW (09618.HK) and NTES-S (09999.HK) sagged 1.5% and 3.3%, with both set to release their quarterly results later today. BABA-W (09988.HK) lost 1.2%. In addition, EAST BUY (01797.HK) shot up 9.5%, while CHINASOFT INT'L (00354.HK) and HORIZONROBOT-W (09660.HK) leaped 4.8% and 3.8%. NETEASE MUSIC (09899.HK) and GDS-SW (09698.HK) stumbled 3.9% and 6.7%. Chinese insurers CHINA LIFE (02628.HK), PICC P&C (02328.HK), CHINA TAIPING (00966.HK) and ZA ONLINE (06060.HK) mounted 3.4-3.9%. Ping An Insurance increased its stake in PSBC (01658.HK) and CPIC (02601.HK), boosting both stocks by 0.9% and 5.1%, while PING AN (02318.HK) jumped up 2.4%. Brokers GF SEC (01776.HK) and HTSC (06886.HK) ballooned 3.4% and 3%. For other financials, HSBC HOLDINGS (00005.HK) slid 0.9%, while HKEX (00388.HK) and AIA (01299.HK) lifted 0.3% and 0.9%.
