HKEX: Weekly Stock Options to Increase to 16, Becoming Most Successful Derivative Product

HKEX (00388.HK) reported an ADT of 1.54 million derivative contracts in 1-3Q25, setting a historical high. During this period, the ADT of stock options gained by 20% versus the entire previous year. HKEX had launched the weekly stock options series in November 2024; and by the end of September 2025, the cumulative trading volume surpassed 22 million contracts. David Lutz, Senior Vice President, Equities Product Development, HKEX, described the weekly stock options as the most successful new derivative product launched to date. This year, apart from the newly added weekly stock options for CATL (03750.HK), five other stocks CNOOC (00883.HK), CHINA MOBILE (00941.HK), SMIC (00981.HK), AIA (01299.HK), and XIAOMI-W (01810.HK) will also have weekly contracts starting next Monday (10th), increasing the weekly stock options to 16.
